As far as I know there is a local law by the Thai government, stating that all divers need to be accompanied by a dive professional. However, it is not being enforced. In your case as you are OWSI yourself that shouldn't be a problem anyway. In the end the final decision is up to the dive shop.

Hi. At Manta Point Divers at Khao Lak, Mike Herz the director has advised me that it is illegal to dive without a divemaster to be with you underwater to guide you for your own safety and it is against the PADI rules. This is very strange to me. I am a PADI OWSI 204,396 and have been divingt all ove rhte world - and the Similans many times. I have always been able to buddy dive. Mike was quite tough with me - this is the law - it is illegal and I should know better. Could anybody please clarify this for me? I have never encourntered a reputable dive shop insisting that my buddy and I must hire a divemaster to dive with us underwater or it is illegal. By the way "illegal" is their reply in my email asking. THoughts>?
